Please refrain from drinking and smoking for 2 weeks to a month after surgery. After one month, you can begin swimming while wearing goggles. 2 weeks after surgery you can start light work outs such as lifting or jogging. Heavy workouts, such as those involving balls or physical fighting, can be resumed 2 to 3 months after the operation.
This depends on your occupation and recovery time. Certain jobs requiring high clarity vision, such as those in the dentistry or surgery professions, may find it difficult to work for one to two days following the surgery. Most patients are able to return to work the next day. However, some people may feel fatigued for a day or so after the procedure. In the case of LASEK surgery, it may be hard to work for up to three days due to pain associated with the procedure. Most patients are able to resume work four days after receiving LASEK.
If your doctor tells you “twenty minutes and all will be fine,” you may want to move on. The surgery is quick, but the healing and fluctuations in vision may continue for months or longer. Refractive surgery is more of a six-month process rather than a 20-Minute-Miracle, even though in some cases you will have perfect vision immediately following the surgery.
After surgery you should expect minor fluctuations in your vision. You may also experience side-effects such as slight regression, minor halos, minor star bursting etc. These normally resolve within the six month healing period.
You can expect to see a dramatic result in your vision the first day after you get lasik.
Some patients experience blurring of vision, sensitivity to light, or a feeling of dryness in the eyes. In most cases, all of these conditions should disappear within three months.
Many Lasek patients will not fully recover functional vision for 7 to 10 days while their eyes heal. In some cases the recovery process may take longer than 2weeks. In general your vision stabilizes after about 1 month, and completes its stabilization by three to six months after the surgery.
The doctor will explain the process of the surgery throughout the operation. Furthermore, the laser will stop when the patient moves his/her eyes. We have never been unable to complete the surgery due to the patient being unable to follow the operation process.
Please place a series of antibiotic eye drops in your eyes to prevent any risk of infection. Don’t forget to bring a pair of sunglasses or a hat as you may experience light sensitivity after the procedure. Please avoid using sunscreen, makeup, or perfume on the day of the surgery. Additionally, as with the consultation, if you wear soft contact lenses, please refrain from wearing them for at least one week prior to surgery, and two weeks for those who wear hard lenses.
On the day of surgery, you will be given a pre-surgery examination and final consultation. Together this will talk approximately 30minutes to 1hour. The surgery itself only takes about 10 minutes followed by 20 minutes in the recovery room. So your whole visit will last a total approximately 1.5~2hours.
The surgery is targeted to treat only those over the age of 18, not including those with progressing myopia and problems in their cornea, glaucoma, and uveitis. People with serious diabetes are also discouraged from having the procedures as diabetes my cause adverse operation results. Additionally, we advise that those who are pregnant or planning pregnancy within 6 months of your initial consultation and surgery, to refrain from the surgery.
The initial test takes about 1:30 to 2 hours. Due to high traffic, on Fridays and Saturdays you may have to wait an additional 20 to 30 minutes for testing.
The examination with consultation will take about two hours. If you wear soft contact lenses, please stop wearing them for at least one week prior to your appointment. Wearers of hard lenses should stop wearing them for at least two weeks prior to the examination in order to expedite the examination time. After the appointment you will have difficulties seeing short distances, so we ask that you please have someone else drive you to the center.
In general, 10 days is enough
to have the surgery and see progress. But, in cases of extremely high myopia,
you may not be eligible for LASIK or LASEK surgery. In these cases, we
recommend intraocular lens surgery which requires approximately a month.
